D.J.’s Day of Giving

February 22, 2025

A Day To Honor

& Celebrate

“D.J.”

Dwon Fields, Jr., affectionately known as D.J. to friends and family, was killed on March 5, 2021, in an alleged mistaken identity murder. He and his two friends were driving home along the Bluffton Parkway when they were shot at, leading to a car accident that seriously injured the other two passengers.

D.J. was an amazing young man, a beloved member of the community and the center of the universe for mom, Kema Bryant, and dad, Dwon Fields, Sr.

DJ was preparing to graduate from Bluffton High School with a potential college football career ahead of him and dreams of becoming a welder.

The death has left the many circles that D.J. was part of in the Lowcountry in shock and unimaginable grief. Friends, family and strangers alike have been incredibly supportive to the families involved in the tragedy.

We know any dream D.J. had, he was going to achieve. We are now focused on justice for D.J., and on ensuring that his spirit, his love and his legacy help area students achieve their dreams for generations to come.

The “Live Like D.J.”

Scholarship Fund

D.J.’s death left a gaping hole in the center of the Bluffton community. There were so many that wanted to find some way to help the Fields family and to celebrate everything that D.J. was in their lives. That’s what led family friends to start the Live Like D.J. Scholarship Fund.

Our goal with the fund is to help send a class of “D.J. Scholars” to college each year and to help seed community projects and initiatives that were near and dear to D.J.’s heart, like tradesmen education and supporting first responders (D.J. was training to become a volunteer paramedic at the time of his passing).

Through the generosity of the community and organizations like F3 Lowcountry, we have been able to raise close to $175,000 since D.J.’s passing to help create the Fund through the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.

Eat Local. Shop Local. Support DJ.
