Dwon Fields, Jr., affectionately known as DJ to friends and family, was killed on March 5, 2021, in an alleged mistaken identity murder. He and his two friends were driving home along the Bluffton Parkway when they were shot at, leading to a car accident that seriously injured the other two passengers.
DJ was an amazing young man, a beloved member of the community and the light of mom Kema Bryant and dad Dwon Fields’ life. He was preparing to graduate from Bluffton High School with a potential college football career ahead of him and dreams of becoming a welder.
The death has left the many circles that DJ was part of in the Lowcountry in shock and unimaginable grief. Friends, family and strangers alike have been incredibly supportive to the families involved in the tragedy.
We are organizing the DJ Day of Giving as a way to help build the Dwon Fields, Jr. Memorial Fund. This fund was created to help the families involved in the short-term and to endow a fund to award scholarships to local high school students looking to pursue a career in the trades.
Restaurants and businesses around the community are coming together to give a portion of their May 5 sales to the fund, so please, get out and support your local businesses and help us launch what we hope will become an annual event to honor DJ.
